Independent and aloof, Akitas are slow to show their feelings. They are reserved with strangers and need appropriate and continued socialization with people and other dogs to stay tolerant. Powerful, courageous and determined, they are best suited to experienced, strong-willed owners.
Originally bred: to hunt large game, guard, and fight other dogs.
