Akitas are dignified, courageous and aloof.
Independent and aloof, Akitas are slow to show their feelings. They are reserved with strangers and need appropriate and continued socialization with people and other dogs to stay tolerant. Powerful, courageous and determined, they are best suited to experienced, strong-willed owners.
Originally bred: to hunt large game, guard, and fight other dogs.

Children: natural guard, not tolerant
Other pets: will kill small animals, will chase
Strangers: reserved, territorial
Unfamiliar dogs: can be problematic/aggressive unless well socialized
Experienced, strong-willed, independent owner who can provide plenty of socialization,

May to be aggressive to other dogs, and may display status-related aggression to gentle owners.
