American Eskimo Dogs come in three sizes. Alert and active, they make good watchdogs. They can be wary and shy with strangers and are loyal and independent with owners.
Originally bred to be a companion.

Tends to bark excessively. May be hard to housetrain and may chew if bored.
This dog's coat will bring in mud and dirt from outside, and daily brushing is needed to prevent mats from forming. The thick coat also means that the owner should ensure the dog does not overheat in summer.
