Basset Hounds are placid and calm and friendly to all, but can be stubbornly independent when asked to do something. Affectionate and placid, they are very interested in scents when outside, which can make walks difficult.
Originally bred for hunting rabbits and hares.

Breeders have exaggerated the ear length of this dog so special care is needed to ensure they are kept clean and free from damage.
This dog has drooping lower eyelids that can result in eye infections. Ears and low slung body will carry dirt into the house. Heavy jowls cause lack of saliva control.
