Choosing the Right Dog for You
Source: Monedula
When it comes to choosing a dog, you may not be completely sure what breed you would like. With different looks, temperaments and qualities, selecting a dog that will suit you may be a tough decision, especially if you're completely unsure as to what you're looking for!
One way that some people choose to find their perfect pup is to go to the local dog's home and have a browse around the homeless pooches there. With the professionals there being able to tell you about each individual dogs' temperament and the ability to see and interact with all of them, you may come across the perfect dog for you there and then. If you're more into the idea of having the looks, prestige and specific temperaments of a pedigree dog, however, this may not be the best place for you to begin looking, since you are more likely to come across loveable mongrels in this environment.
One breed of dog that many people find to be preferable is the Labrador. Kind and intelligent, these dogs suit many people perfectly, especially those looking for a family pet since Labradors are often very good with children and the elderly. A rather docile temperament means that Labradors are fantastic for those who do not want to have to find ways to keep their dog entertained all of the time, also.
Alternatively, you may be looking for a dog which is lively, vibrant and fun. In this case, a Dalmatian or Springer Spaniel may be more suitable for you. These breeds of dog can be great for those that like frequent trips to the park with their pup, or who want a companion that they can enjoy fun games of catch or Frisbee with.
When it comes to dogs, size can also be a factor. If you want to travel by car a lot with your dog or you don't want huge baskets cluttering up where you live then a small dog may be a better idea for you. Chihuahuas are very popular, especially amongst those looking for the epitome of the phrase 'handbag dog'. Terriers are also a great choice and can be a bundle of fun at times. For those looking for the cute factor, a Schitzu may also be a wonderful choice.
For those that are looking for dogs that will make them feel protected, a Doberman, German shepherd or Boxer may be more up your aisle. Even if your pooch wouldn't hurt a fly, these breeds are associated with being guarding and somewhat fearsome - anybody walking past you in the street or trying to break into your house is surely not going to try it on with one of these big dogs!
Some people select their dog purely on looks, and although this is a very subjective opinion, there are some that are chosen more than others for this reason. Huskies, for example, are a dog that many people see and immediately want to put their arms around for a hug! Alternatively, the look of the French Poodle may be more appealing to you.
When it comes to selecting a dog that's right for you, you should find out as much as possible about the breed's temperament and whether it'll fit into your life well and bring you as much happiness as possible.
