What Kind Of Family Dog Should I Get?
Pedigree dogs all have different characteristics and personalities attributed to them. Although these are not always applicable to each and every pup, if you're looking for a family dog then you may want to find out about some breeds which are seen as being the best around children and the rest of the family.
Arguably the best beyond all others is the Labrador. These dogs, although playful, are not often boisterous or aggressive, and they do not tend to get overly excitable. Kind-hearted and loyal, it is easy to see why these dogs are used for the blind, and their intelligence makes them superb to train and to teach tricks to. Labradors are known for being fantastic with children, and they can be very much fun to own, especially if you like the idea of staying active and being able to take your dog on long walks. Similarly, Golden Retrievers' share these characteristics and also make wonderful family dogs that many people fall in love with.
If you're looking for a highly playful dog that your children can have a great time with, a Dalmatian could be the ideal pup for you. They can be quite hyperactive, but their energy means that you can have hours of fun playing and walking them. Although they can be quite a handful at times, especially if they haven't had enough exercise, owning a Dalmatian is very rewarding since they are extremely loyal and will thrive from your attention.
Although they don't have a great reputation in the eyes of some people, the German Shepherd is actually a superb pick for a family dog. They respond well to training, hence why they are used by the police force, and this is good since they can become quite hyperactive if not taught to act otherwise. Although if you have small children these dogs may not be a good pick, since they are quite large and have a lot of strength, older children will have lots of fun playing in open areas with a German Shepherd.
There are many breeds that are better for families than others, and by finding out a little about pedigree dogs and their characteristics, you can decide which would fit into, and become part of, your family.
