Labradoodles are the most loveable looking dogs, and most are great with children, but always remember that any dog can be dangerous when panicked. This exceptionally lovable breed began with Wally Conron, an Australian breeder, bred a Labrador Retriever with a Standard Poodle in 1988. Since then, Labradoodles have become very desirable pets.

As the Labradoodle breed is still developing, puppies cannot be expected to be all the same. Some may rarely be slightly aggressive, but on the whole they are a cross-breed which is great with families. They have been successfully used as helpers for both unsighted and deaf humans. This is where the intelligence of both Labradors and Poodles is a great help.

There are three acknowledged types of Labradoodles, commonly called hair, fleece and wool. These types relate to their coats: the hair type is most closely related to the parent Labrador. The fleece type of Labradoodle has a softer coat, more flowing, whereas the wool variety has a softer coat, more like that of the other parent, the poodle.

Labradoodles have become very popular in recent times, most notably with celebrities, but this is not to say that they are just an accessory, or 'designer' dog. This breed is a warm, affectionate type of dog, who will give back more than it is given.

Although the breed is not recognized by the Kennel Club, there are organizations that are dedicated to the care of Labradoodles and the education of their owners. Owning a dog is as serious as having a child, and different breeds require their own special kinds of care and training, and it is essential to understand the nature of Labradoodles. From when they are a puppy, Labradoodles must be trained, otherwise they will run around and develop on their own until they act as though they are almost like a wild child. Because the breed is so intelligent, they will be keen to interact with their human family, and have constant human attention. This is both a blessing, as they are so loveable, but a nuisance at the same time, as a loveable dog can sometimes be a little bit too loving. So, as soon as you get your Labradoodle, you should train it - as with any dog breed.

Training a young Labradoodle is about the same as training any other young dog. From the beginning, your dog should know who is control, the leader of the pack. Although you should exercise control over your Labradoodle's behaviour, it is essential to be friends together, as a dog that is controlled too much will be unhappy. A Labradoodle will be happy to be part of the family, but will also want to be happy. Once you have gone through the basics of making your dog understand his or her place in the pecking order in your family, kids included, then you will be able to enjoy having one of these adorable dogs as part of your family.

There is sure to be a facility in your local area which will help you to train your dog. Although these may cost you some money, this will be well spent if you want to build a happy relationship with your Labradoodle.
