Aloof and independent, Japanese Shiba Inus are reluctant to show their feelings. They are quiet and rarely bark, and can be reserved with strangers and problematic with other dogs unless they have been well socialized. With their owners, they are playful and enjoy company.
Originally bred: to hunt small game, then as a companion.
