Potential Problems
Often destructive chewers during adolescence. Lack of exercise may lead to boisterousness, running away and destructive behaviour.
Recommended for energetic, first-time owners. Its good nature makes the Labrador an ideal family pet.
Yellow and Black Labradors
Yellow Labradors tend to have a slightly softer temperament than the Blacks (right) and are more likely to be easy going. Both can be bred for working or show purposes, and it may be best to choose one from a show line rather than from working stock unless you are prepared for lots of exercise.
Chocolate Labradors
Chocolate Labradors tend to be more tolerant to pain and, consequently, often injure themselves more readily. They can be more exuberant and enthusiastic, and are prone to running headlong into their owners, strangers or other dogs. This can cause problems with some people and other dogs who are unlikely to tolerate such impudence from others.
