Owner's Guide
Strong, powerful Maremmas are naturally protective and need plenty of socialisation to ensure they are tolerant of strangers and other dogs. They have an independent, aloof nature and a thick coat that will shed hair in a warm house.
Originally bred to guard sheep from wolves.

The Maremma has a very protective nature.
Exercise Requirements
Medium. Not very energetic, but muscular so needs good walks.

Experienced, strong-willed, physically strong owner with a secure garden or yard who can give this powerful dog a job to do to keep its lively mind occupied.
Potential Problems
Tends to be aggressive to strangers and unfamiliar dogs, and may display status-related aggression towards gentle owners.
Daily grooming is required to hair in good condition.
