Owner's Guide
Newfoundlands love to swim and will try to rescue anyone from the water whether they are in trouble or not. Their thick coat can make them uncomfortable in summer or in heated houses. Calm and gentle, they need early training and socialization because of their large size.
Originally bred: to help fishermen by hauling in nets and pulling carts.

Dogs from some lines may be aggressive to strangers.
May overheat in summer. Will require regular brushing to keep coat in good condition. Loose jowls can lead to saliva control problems.
