Owner's Guide

Pekingese were bred by ancient Chinese Royal Courts to have short, bowed legs so they could not wander far. Added to this they have a very thick coat making them prone to overheating and a shortened nose making breathing difficult so they do not enjoy exercise. Pekingese can be stubborn, aloof and independent.

Originally bred: as a companion.

This dog's long coat will bring in mud and dirt from outside, and requires daily grooming to prevent mats from forming.
Its bulbous eyes are prone to injury, and the shortened nose can make breathing difficult, so it is likely to snore.
