Owner's Guide
Domestic Breed. Essentially, a long-haired Burmese. A recent British breed which is frequently confused with the superficially similar American breed called the Tiffany.
The Tiffanie was a long-haired by-product of the Burmilla breeding programme instigated in the 1980s. It is a member of the Asian group and was originally called the 'Asian Longhair'. It was re-named the Tiffanie when it was wrongly believed to be closely related to the American Tiffany.
Appearance: A golden-eyed cat with a long, silky coat, a ruff and a full tail. Otherwise it has the typical body proportions of a Burmese. Typically, the coat is brown but may also be in a variety of other colours.
History: During the 1980s Asian Shorthair breeding programmes, producing variations on the Burmese theme, several breeders accidentally began to produce long-haired kittens. The first to do so was Jeanne Bryson of Droitwich in Worcestershire. The Longhairs were often neutered and sold as pets, but some were kept and formed the basis of the new breed.
Colour Forms: The Tiffanie can be in any colour or pattern found in the Asian group.
