Top Products at Crufts 2011
This Miniature Pinscher shows off his British Bulldog spirit!
Crufts is a dog lover's heaven! In addition to the dog shows, breed information booths, and fun displays of agility and obedience there are also hundreds of exhibitor stands with just about every product that a dog and his owner could dream of.
Here are some the strangest, best, essential and exotic products from Crufts 2011:
1. Dog Rocks
These 100% natural mineral rocks are placed into your dog's drinking water bowl and purify it to remove the nitrates and other substances that cause brown burnt patches on your lawn when your pet pees. They are completely harmless to your dog, and despite the pricetag of £15 the packets of stones were selling like hotcakes at the show, with many owners endorsing them. Check them out at: http://www.dogrocks.co.uk/
2. Bak Pak Dog Panniers
Let your dog carry his own kit when you are out and about in these nifty dog backpacks! If you and your dog enjoy an active lifestyle, you will love the product range from Paw Things, which also includes doggy life jackets, high viz tabards and sun reflecting coats. Check them out at: http://www.paw-things.com/
3. Dog Gym
If your dog needs more exercise than you can provide, or requires rehabilitation after an injury, then the dog gym treadmill provides a safe, consistent and indoor solution. A bit pricier than snapping on the lead and wandering round the local park, but there were several exhibitors displaying not just treadmills but doggy swimming pools for training and injury recovery. Check them out at: http://www.equisea.com/
4. Custom Pet Portraits
There are so many talented artists out there, and many of them were showing off their pet portraits at Crufts. One of my favourites was Karen Crook, who has a knack for capturing not just an exact likeness of a dog, but also their unique personality in her detailed paintings. Check them out at: http://www.karencrookart.com/
5. Tick Remover
Ticks pose a serious threat to both dogs and humans, as they carry Lyme Disease and other viruses which can cause brain swelling, paralysis, internal bleeding and seizures. Removing ticks correctly is vital to preventing infection, and the O'Tom Hook has been proven to be the most effective at removing these pests safely. Check them out at: http://www.bada-uk.org/
6. Dog Massage Coat
Ideal for older, arthritic dogs, or those who spend long periods of time running around at work or play, these innovative new coats bring equine massage therapy to dogs. The coats are available in numerous sizes to fit comfortably on any breed of dog, and are designed to reduce stiffness, condition muscles, improve circulation, and generally enhance health. Check them out at: http://www.springsthings.co.uk/
7. Gourmet Food
Humans aren't the only ones concerned with the amount of artificial ingredients in their food these days. Many pet owners are switching to all natural, high quality food for their pets. Brands such as Petfit use no artificial preservatives, chemical additives or indigestible "fillers" such as hair and corn. In fact, their meat and veg recipes are even approved for human consumption (although after curiosity killed my tastebuds I don't recommend it!). Check them out at: http://www.pet-fit.net/
