Choosing the right name for your new pet is one of those things that, like children, should not be taken lightly. After all, what you call your new companion will actually reflect on how you treat them. Names chosen should exude a feeling of warmth and friendliness. It is for this reason that popular pet names tend to follow human trends or reflect on the nature of the pet. E.g. a white cat may be called snowy or snowball, a black dog may be called sooty etc.
However, just as human baby names, pet names follow trends too. So what are the current top ten popular names for cats and dogs alike?
- William, Wills or Billy - Following the Royal Wedding between Prince William and Katherine Middleton in April 2011.
- Kate or Katy - The Royal equivalent for female pets!
- Max - Always a popular name for both dogs and cats. It has consistently been one of the trendiest names.
- Molly - Again, consistently a popular name.
- Lady - Always an elegant name but popular now because of the popularity of Lady Gaga!
- Charlie - Was popular for pets in 2010 and we still think its a great name.
- Lucy - A popular child's name as well as for your pet.
- Arthur - A very distinguished name and one that is popular following the TV series.
- Lily - Flower names are popular at the moment and with Lily Allen a popular celeb at the moment we think it's a name that will be here for a while in the top ten.
- Ozzy - After 'Ozzy' Osbourne, a really good name for a cat or dog or anything else that likes to make itself heard and is a bit wild!
Choosing a pet name is so important. It adds to and should reflect their personality too. After all, you want them to fit in as a member of your family! Not only that, but you have to remember that you may have to call for your pet at the park!
